How to visit us? - OTOP

Each year, the Biebrza Valley is visited by thousands of nature watchers. In 2011, OTOP built two observation sites for watching birds without disturbing them. A tower was built by the road connecting the villages Laskowiec and Zajki, where bird watchers can explore the bird richness of the area. There is a small car park by the tower.

In addition, a hide was built on the causeway among meadows, were you can watch the life of birds without disturbing them. Bird watchers with cars are kindly asked to leave their vehicles by the entrance to the causeway. There is about 1.1 km to the hide from there.

While walking to the hide, you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the Biebrza nature and avoid conflict with local farmers. Their work prevents the meadows from getting overgrown and good relations with farmers are very important for us. That is why we ask you to observe the entry ban.

The boardwalk Długa Luka takes you to the marsh habitat without getting your shoes wet, and – most importantly – without damaging the soft peat layer. The boardwalk is about 400-metre long and ends with a platform, where you can view the spectacular and vast Ławki Mire.

Every year in August the European and Polish Championship in fen mowing, the “Biebrzańskie sianokosy”, is held in the Ławki Mire. This unusual show is one of the most important local events.

Competitors mow a hundred-metre-long stripe of fen meadow using a scythe. Each year, the Championships are participated by farmers, representatives of self-governments and non-governmental organisations, or even visitors from abroad. The event is supposed to promote the mowing of fen meadows, i.e. active conservation.

It is also worth taking part in the exceptional event, organised yearly in August by the Biebrza National Park, which aims at promoting the Podlasie region and its culture. It is the “Targi rękodzieła i ginących zawodów” (Handicraft and vanishing professions fair) in Twierdza Osowiec. The fair is participated by regional folk artists, craftsmen and bio-food producers from the Podlasie, Kurpiowszczyzna and Warmia-Masuria regions. Visitors can see traditional techniques of tool and jewellery production, try regional products and enjoy local music.
